Communicating with Dementia

  • Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Riverside/Moreno Valley 22100 Eucalyptus Avenue Moreno Valley, California, 92553 United States (map)

This training is being offered in person for the Riverside County Ombudsman staff!

Effective communication with individuals living with dementia requires understanding how cognitive changes affect behavior, emotions, and interactions with others. This training provides Ombudsman staff with a practical overview of dementia and its common forms, emphasizing how behaviors and reactions often serve as expressions of unmet needs, distress, or attempts to communicate. Participants will explore common neuropsychiatric symptoms and behavioral challenges, along with practical strategies for recognizing, understanding, and responding to these difficulties. The goal is to strengthen communication skills, reduce challenging interactions, and promote compassionate, person-centered care.
